2 – IT Project Management – Systems Replacement

We assisted the client in identifying key required features and selecting an industry-specific, enterprise-level application to replace a DOS-based system which ran the business. We managed the testing, data migration, training, hardware and reporting phases on this project, which went live using the Big Bang method (switching off the old system at close of business Friday and using the new system for all transactions at start of business Monday).

Key to a distribution business is the maintenance of back-orders but for customers and with suppliers. These were transferred with no loss of data or business. Several companies in this field have tried, unsuccessfully, to migrate data to new systems, in one case leading to the financial demise of the organization.

In this case data from the mothership database is uploaded to SQL Server in the cloud, to power the company web site, which now brings in more than 50% of sales. The web site is a rich source of data, information and selling tools for the business.

Professionals worked with:

  • Networking/hardware – all hardware, server and network systems replaced
  • Proprietary DOS application developer – old system
  • Industry-specific application developer – new system
